Ce qu’il y a de marrant avec la draft c’est que, que cela soit avant, pendant ou après tout le monde a un avis… et tout le monde a un avis différent ! Et qu’en fait personne n’est sûr de quoi que ce soit.
Si vous venez de lire une critique cinglante à propos de la draft de votre équipe préférée ne paniquez pas (à moins que cela soit les Raiders !). Il est fort probable que vous trouverez ailleurs une critique enthousiaste à propos de la même draft.
Voici à titre d’exemple la draft des Bills vue par 5 « experts ». Notée de A- à C- on peut dire que les avis sont variés ! Pas un seul des 4 joueurs draftés (dont le DE de Penn State Maybin ici en photo) par Buffalo lors des deuxs premiers tours ne fait l’unanimité pour ou contre lui ! Maybin est ici le "rusher dont ils avaient besoin " et là "un end trop petit de plus". Wood est un "excellent pick" et un "très bon centre" mais "pas un grand athlète". Levitre est "peut être le meilleur guard de la draft" mais lui non plus "pas un grand athlète". Quand à Byrd il "manque de vitesse" mais est "une machine à intercepter"! Allez comprendre! En fait il faudra attendre quelques années pour savoir ce qu’il en est vraiment…

Grade: B+ Aaron Maybin was the pass-rusher this team needed to anchor the defensive line. On the other side of the line, the selections of center Eric Wood and guard Andrew Levitre in the second round were excellent picks. Wood is a very good center and Levitre very well may be the best guard in this draft. Also, Jairius Byrd's ball skills could help him become a very good nickelback in this league. They got the tight end they needed in Shawn Nelson to give this offense another weapon. The reason this team didn't receive an A is because it didn't get a right or a left tackle, which I thought was a need with the trade of offensive tackle Jason Peters.

Grade: C The Bills badly needed a left tackle, but passed on Michael Oher to take Aaron Maybin, yet another undersized defensive end on a team full of them. They took two offensive linemen later with center Eric Wood and Andy Levitre, but still don’t have a true left tackle. Fourth-round TE Shawn Nelson could start right away, and was their best value pick. Buffalo always sees players differently than the rest of the league, but it’s only led to mediocrity.

Grade: A- May have found four eventual starters in first two rounds. Had only 24 sacks last year so DE Aaron Maybin becomes an immediate savior. Lacks bulk at 236 pounds but quick off the edge. Traded back into first round for C Eric Wood, a position of need. CB J Byrd lacks speed but knows how to play. G A Levitre is versatile, has played T, but figures more inside as the Bills rebuild their line. How much immediate help any of these players supplies is the open question.

Grade: C- Considering the recent trade of Jason Peters , this is a pretty mediocre draft. Maybin is a dynamic, pass-rushing athlete the Bills haven’t had at linebacker since the days of Bryce Paup. The downside with Maybin is he hasn’t played that much and spent only one year as a starter at Penn State. If the Bills can keep defensive end Aaron Schobel healthy, Maybin could team with him and fellow defensive end Chris Kelsay to give the team a dynamic pass rush. Byrd is an interception machine, finishing his career at Oregon with 17, and gives the Bills some much-needed depth in the secondary. However, neither Wood nor Levitre are great athletes, even by offensive line standards, and appear to be reaches.

Grade: B The Bills are being praised for addressing most of their needs except for offensive tackle while getting value with their first five selections. Pass rusher Aaron Maybin was the 20th Penn State player taken by the Bills and he has a great first step off the ball. Louisville center Eric Wood will work at guard with the offseason signing of Geoff Hangartner from Carolina. Oregon State guard Andrew Levitre is one mean son of a gun and had an awesome game against USC. Cornerback Jairus Byrd has a chance to be the nickel back. Coach Dick Jauron is hoping holdover Brad Butler can slide from guard to tackle. Southern Miss tight end Shawn Nelson has a chance to stick; he's a big target.
